today we're going to visit the stunning red lotus lake in udon thani. I read about this place in a travel magazine (yes, I still read the hard copy version of travel magazines) a couple of years ago and I told myself that I must visit this magnificent place.
off the beaten path destination.. hidden gem... my kinda place!
so we rent a car and a driver from the pannarai hotel to the lake. we departed from the hotel at 5.30am. The drive was around 45 minutes.
and then we hire a boat. and off we go to see the beautiful pink lotus.
as the boat goes further and further away from the pier, the scene gradually begin to change. we can see endless carpet of pink lotus blooms stretching as far as the eyes can see. is it lotus or is it water lilies? not sure. anyway, it's gorgeous!

- best time to visit red lotus lake in udon thani: from december to february, when the flowers are in bloom. best to visit in the morning (between 6am to 11am).
- we visited the place on dec 26, 2019 from 6.15am to 8.30am.
- we hired the boat for 4 persons (private): 500 baht for 1.5 hours.
- for car rental from the hotel: 1500 baht for return trip. the price includes driver and fuel.
